On May 25, CCIEE Executive Vice Chairman & CEO Zhang Xiaoqiang met with Peter Drysdale, Professor at Australian National University. Both parties exchanged minds over the Sino-Australian Economic and Trade Cooperation and Research Framework that had been reached previously. Also present at the meeting were, among others, Zhang Yongjun, Deputy Chief Economist of CCIEE, and Xu Chaoyou, Director General of the Department of External Affairs of CCIEE.
As pointed out by Mr. Zhang Xiaoqiang, China and Australia have recorded a rapid development of bilateral trade and economic ties, and both countries enjoy strong complementary strengths. The preliminary consensus over ACFTA framework has heralded a promising future of common development for both China and Australia. According to him, this is just the right time to talk about the prospects of bilateral ties, which signified much for promoting Sino-Australian relationship. An in-depth exchange of views shall be conducted over the proposed research guideline, so as to amend and upgrade the same into a cooperation agreement for both parties to sign. This will give birth to high-quality research findings.
Prof. Peter Drysdale gave countenance to the constructive suggestions put forward by Mr. Zhang Xiaoqiang, and pointed out that the two countries shall develop a perspective about the development of Sino-Australia FTA within the next decade or two. It is imperative for both parties to take urgent actions and carry out multi-dimensional collaboration under the G20 framework, in a bid to deepen the Sino-Australian relationship.
Both parties agreed to sign the Cooperation and Research Agreement during the session of the 4th Global Think Tank Summit to be held at the end of June.
