Mr. Wei Jianguo, CCIEE Vice Chairman, Met with EU Delegation in China

On July 24, Vice Chairman Mr. Wei Jianguo met with the Delegation of the European Union in China led by Political Counselor Mr. Charles William Parton at CCIEE. Also present at the meeting were related researchers and officers from the Strategic Research Department and of External Affairs Department of CCIEE; Mr. Michal Makocki from the DG Trade, European Commission; and Ignacio Asenjo, Secondary Secretary of Trade Section, Delegation of the European Union in China.

Mr. Wei Jianguo first introduced the proposal and implementation of the “One Belt and One Road” Initiative, and explained the misunderstandings from the outside world about the Initiative. As China's biggest trading partner, the EU is closely related to the Initiative. According to Mr. Wei, China and the EU shall strengthen in-depth cooperation in six spheres, including, among others, finance, environmental protection, medical care, urban planning, science & technology and people-to-people communication. Both parties shall rev up the construction of EU-China “track II” dialogue mechanism, and bring into further play the role of the Delegation in promoting EU-China cooperation, so as to enhance the exchange and collaboration between Chinese and European media and boost the efficiency the policy information communication.

According to Mr. Charles William Parton, the EU will conduct research on the influence of the “Belt and Road” Initiative on the EU trade policies and will further enhance cooperation with China in the domains of energy, transportation and urbanization, etc. Both parties also exchanged in-depth ideas on the impacts of the Initiative on the US and Latin America, potential trade conflicts, partnership in transportation infrastructure construction, fair competition and intellectual property rights protection, etc.
