On the afternoon of July 7, CCIEE and Gansu Provincial Government co-hosted in Lanzhou the Silk Road Economic Belt Think Tank Forum themed “Seize Opportunities of ‘One Belt and One Road’ to Jointly Build Silk Road Economic Belt”. CCIEE Executive Vice Chairman & CEO Zhang Xiaoqiang attended the forum. Vice Governor of Gansu Li Rongcan addressed the opening ceremony, and CCIEE Secretary General & Vice Chairman Zhang Dawei chaired and concluded the forum. During the forum, CCIEE Chief Economist Chen Wenling and Lanzhou Mayor Yuan Zhanting interpreted policies on building the Economic Belt, while experts and scholars from China, the US, Russia, Korea, India and Pakistan offered suggestions on developing finance, e-commerce, and tourism culture along the Belt.

In his closing speech, Zhang Dawei highly acknowledged Gansu’s prominent position in the Belt and its favourable economic, social, historical and cultural conditions. By quoting the poem, “Newly planted poplars and willows, stretching thousands of miles to Jade Pass, usher in the vernal breeze”, he expressed his confidence that Gansu was to seize the historic opportunities to speed up development and break new ground. CCIEE will strengthen cooperation with Gansu by offering intellectual support to its development and the building of Economic Belt.

The forum attracted roughly 200 participants from over 20 Chinese autonomous regional, provincial and municipal governments, relevant organs directly under Gansu Provincial Government, authorities of cities and autonomous prefectures in Gansu, embassies and consulates in China, international organizations and chambers of commerce, domestic and foreign enterprises and think tanks.
