Chief Economist Chen Wenling Meets with SK Research Institute Research Fellow Choi

On 16 July 2015, Chief Economist Chen Wenling met with the SK Research Institute Research Fellow Choi and his delegation. They exchanged views on the “Belt and Road” initiative, AIIB’s role in regional development and other issues.

Mme. Chen Wenling gave a brief introduction to the “Belt and Road” initiative. She pointed out that as a new platform for international cooperation, the initiative meets the common needs of countries along the the routes, and will create tremendous opportunities for those countries to develop themselves by opening to the outside world and drawing on each other’s strengths. The “Belt and Road” initiative aims to promote connectivity among Asian, European and African continents and their adjacent seas, establish and strengthen partnerships among related countries, set up connectivity networks and realize common development by aligning and coordinating development strategies of the countries along the routes. It is very much inclusive and encourages the participation of all countries. Mme. Chen also explained the goals of the initiative, recent progress in project design and the role of AIIB, and answered other questions of interests to the guests. 

Mr. Choi said that the ROK entrepreneurs look forward to the business opportunities that the “Belt and Road” initiative will bring to China and ROK and his research institute is ready to establish a long-term research and communication mechanism with CCIEE to promote collaboration between Chinese and ROK enterprises.

The two sides agreed to stay in touch and exchange views on any issues of mutual interest, so that they can better advise their respective government on decision making and provide intellectual support for the economic and social development of the two countries.
