On 1 February 2016, H.E. Mr. Miroslaw Gajewski, Polish Ambassador to China, visited CCIEE upon invitation and held talks with the Center’s researchers. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Wei Jianguo, Vice Chairman of CCIEE, and attended by Mr. Zhang Yongjun, Deputy Chief Economist and Mr. Xu Chaoyou, Director-General of the External Affairs Department of CCIEE, Mr. Zhang Jianping, Academy of Macroeconomic Research of NDRC, and Economic Counselor Jolanta Iwanicka of the Polish Embassy.
Ambassador Gajewski gave an update on the overall economic situation in Poland and Poland-China economic relations, and exchanged views with the researchers on how Poland could play a better role in G20, the implementation of the “Belt and Road” initiative and AIIB.
The researchers voiced their views on the foregoing issues. They suggested that Poland use its geographic advantages to turn itself into a railway and logistic hub connecting Asia and Europe and seize the opportunities presented by EU’s “Junker Plan” and China’s “Belt and Road” initiative. Meanwhile, Poland can raise the recognition and profile of its products by tapping into its long-standing history and rich culture which has produced so many world-renowned scientists and artists. Poland can also actively engage in international cooperation through major international platforms like G20.
Mr. Wei Jianguo said that the current China-Poland economic relations have shown good momentum of growth, and Poland has important geographical advantages in EU’s relations with China. CCIEE stands ready to establish a regular exchange mechanism with the Embassy to organize joint research between Chinese and Polish think tanks and hold China-Poland CEO dialogues at a proper time to promote greater development of bilateral economic relations. Ambassador Gajewski agreed with Mr. Wei’s opinion.
