China Economic High-end Forum and the Publication of Chen Wenling’s Work held in Beijing

China Economic High-end Forum and the Publication Conference of Chen Wenling’s Work, co-sponsored by Nankai University, China Economic Publishing House and Nanjing Academy of Social Sciences held in Beijing on 4^th July 2016.

Mr. Mao Yuzeng, Vice President of China Economic Publishing House, chaired the opening ceremony. Mr. Zhang Qiaoqiang, Executive Vice Chairman of CCIEE, Member of Standing Council of National High-end Think-Tank and former Vice Chairman of National Development and Reform Commission, and Mr. Gong Ke, Chancellor of Nankai University delivered speech. Mr. Zhang Dawei, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of CCIEE host guest to speak, and Wang Chunzheng, Lin Yifu, Li Junru, Fan Gang, Long Guoqiang, Yang Shubing, Pang Jinju, Hu Angang, Bai Jingfu, Wang Wen, Zhou Tianyong and Li Chenghua as well as other theorists and economists made wonderful speeches. According to the major, key and significant problems in current economic and social transformations, they put forward the deep thinkings.

President Xi Jinping hosted and delivered an important speech on the philosophy and social science work forum. He proposed that we should speed up the construction of philosophy and social science system combined with the great practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Under the conditions of twists and turns in the world economy recovery and the profound transform of the external environment of global governance, China is not only facing the unprecedented opportunities and severe challenges, but also experiencing the most extensive and profound economic and social changes in the history. Contemporary Chinese philosophy and social workers, especially economists shoulder the obligatory historical responsibilities. Participants pointed out, that China is standing among the nations of the world and becomes the important driven force of global economy. China needs the world, meanwhile, vice versa. From Chinese perspective to analyse the world by a broader insight to investigate the links between China and the profound changing and reforming work, become a necessary issue to be studied. As Chinese theorists and economists, we need to think over the chinese economy from a new perspective inn the line with the theoretical innovation and development. Chinese ideology, theories and solutions should be proposed and voice loudly in order to achieve the CPC’s two ”one-hundred” goals and to cope with the new challenges both internationally and domestically.

Xi Jinping, the general secretary of CPC, pointed out in the celebration of 95th anniversary of the founding of CPC, that “Time is the mother of thought and practice is the source of theory. While, practice develops no end, we know the truth, through theoretical innovation is endless. Today, times changed and the development of our country is beyond the imagination of classic Marxist writers in breadth and depth. At the same time, the practice of our socialism is only about decades, which is still at the primary stage. The more new problems in the the development of new situation, the more constantly break-through in theory we require.” Participants emphasized that intellectual resource is the most valuable resource of a country and a nation. Think-tank researchers shoulder the huge historical mission. The great achievements in 30 years opening and reform in China need to be summarized. We need intellectual support during the period of deepening reform and economic transform. Several key issues and economic phenomenon in current China’s macro economy should be demonstrated urgently by China’s own theory.

Participants agreed, the publication of 11 books with 53 million words as research outputs by Ms. Chen Wenling, Chief Economist of CCIEE, truly records the course of her hard work. Especially she works for a long period at both governmental and non-governmental think-tanks, and draft a few of important documents, which are centered with key issues of China’s reform and development. Most of her research are strategic and foreseeable policy research with theoretical and practical achievements. She donates positive contributions in serving at policy-making and theoretical innovation with great achievements. China is becoming a strong power in the world. Providing her research and thoughts sometime at some policy regarding some issue promotes related national works. This reflects the thoughts of ‘for China” and the innovative spirit of Chinese economists. We are now at the era of great development with adjustments and changes, we are now facing the unprecedented chance and challenge. The theoretical circle and economists have to make more efforts to spurn the traditional and outdated theories and stereotypes, at the same time ,we should renew the common dream, ideal, interests and obligations of human beings. Owning a broader mind and creating more wisdom works to contribute one’s wisdom in a long-lasting peaceful and prosperous harmonious society is the first duty of every scholar and the historical role on the path of China’s great rejuvenation.
