On 29 August 2016, CCIEE held the 86th Monthly Economic Talk under the theme of “Release of CCIEE Research Achievements”. CCIEE Consulting Committee Director Wang Chunzheng presided over the talk. Mr. Song Xiaowu, Chairman of China Reform Foundation, Ms. Chen Wenling, Chief Economist and Assistant CEO of CCIEE, Ms. Chen Fengying, Research Fellow of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, and Mr. Gao Hongbing, Vice President of Alibaba Group and President of Ali Research, respectively gave a speech and commented on the five newly launched books.

Mr. Wang Chunzheng noted that as one of the pilot high-level think tanks of China, CCIEE has long devoted itself to tracing studies on major and hot issues and key challenges at home and abroad. Some of the research outcomes have received acknowledgement from leaders of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, and some got much public and media attention after being made public through various channels. Mr. Wang also gave a brief introduction to the five books, namely Choice--China’s Road to Economic Transition, The Sino-U.S. Economic and Trade Relations in the Next Decade, Global Strategy: New Layout of United States, Internet Revolution and the Changing Business Models in China and the Insight in China series.

The speakers shared the view that as a new type of high-level think tank, CCIEE has since its inception devoted itself to research of major strategic and economic issues in line with the principles of serving national development, improving people’s livelihood and promoting exchanges and cooperation, providing strong and effective intellectual support for the decision making of the government and businesses, and achieving a large number of high-caliber research outcomes. Representing the quintessence of CCIEE’s researches and containing strategic, forward-looking and operable views with considerable influence on policy making, the five books are of high theoretical and practical value and well received by the public. They have reflected CCIEE’s research strength and capability, its philosophy of “Originality, Objectivity, Rationality and Compatibility”, and its research team’s diligence and selfless dedication. They are also an epitome of the Chinese economists’ relentless pursuit of theoretical innovation and their lofty ideal of contributing to national affairs. The books are the results of combined efforts of major leaders of CCIEE and renowned researchers of different sectors, which has demonstrated the importance CCIEE has attached to bringing into play the rich experience and broad vision of veteran experts, and how “a small institution has leveraged a big network”. These are the unique strengths of CCIEE which have ensured the high quality of its research results.

China is now experiencing fast development, great adjustments and great changes and the human society is facing unprecedented opportunities and challenges. We need to abandon the outdated conventional theories and mindsets, and rethink about our common dream, common ideals, common interests and common responsibility. To that end, CCIEE needs to make greater efforts.

After the speeches, the speakers answered questions from the media and audience. Researchers of CCIEE and representatives of its member organizations, relevant enterprises, research institutions and the media attended the talk.
