On March 24th, 2018, the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Guangming Daily jointly organized the launching event of the new book “Jointly Building a Better World” and a seminar on “A Common Community of Shared Future for All Mankind and the Transformation of the Global Governance” in Beijing. Experts and scholars from Chinese and international think tanks exchanged their ideas and suggestions on how to better build a common community of shared future for all mankind.

Understanding the progress of the world and conforming to the trend

“In today’s world, all the countries around the world have become unprecedentedly interdependent. We all live in the same global village and become part of a common community of shared future,” said General Secretary Xi Jinping at the Moscow Institute of International Relation on March 23, 2013.

Guo Yezhou, Deputy Director of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee, stated that building a common community of shared future for all mankind is the most distinctive banner of diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era. It embodies the integration of the traditional Chinese culture “one world” and today’s development trend, and reflects the value and mission of the contemporary Chinese communists, represented by General Secretary Xi Jinping. It has been supported and recognized by more countries and political parties in the world.

What happened to the world? What should we do? The idea of building a common community of shared future for all mankind is the wisdom and solution offered by China to the world.

This is the magnificent vision of the Chinese nation in grasping the general trend of world progress and drawing a bright future for mankind.

Zhang Zheng, Editor-in-Chief of the Guangming Daily pointed out that the world is faced with a turbulent environment, such as a slow economic recovery, frequent regional conflicts, and intensified global issues. With Comrade Xi Jinping as the core of the CPC Central Committee, we have actively advocated the building of a common community of shared future for all mankind.

According to Li Junru, the former deputy head of the Central Party School, various participants have become more inter-related than ever as the economic globalization continue to move forward. At the same time, the rapid development of the Internet, big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence have united the destiny of all mankind.

Transforming people’s desire for a better life into reality

A common community of shared future for all mankind, as the name suggests, the future and destiny of all the countries are closely linked together. We should share the same boat with each other, work hard to make our planet a harmonious family, and make people’s desire for a better life a reality. In December 2017, the keynote address delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the high-level dialogue between the Chinese Communist Party and the world’s political parties demonstrated the firm determination of the Chinese communists to fight for the cause of human progress, which has been widely recognized by people of all countries.

On March 23, 2018, the resolution on “Promoting cooperation and win-win in the field of human rights”, put forward by China, was adopted at the 37th Session of the UN Human Rights Council. The resolution calls on all countries to work together to build a new type of international relationship that respects each other and promotes fairness and cooperation, and build a common community of shared future for all mankind.

“This will open a new chapter for human development and progress in the 21st century,” said Chen Wenling, chief economist of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges. She believes that the current competition among major powers is unprecedentedly fierce. Building a common community of shared future for all mankind shows China’s pursuit of building a better world, which will unite all nations.

At present, cyber security threats and risks have become increasingly prominent and have become a problem facing all countries. Li Yuxiao, deputy director of the China Cyberspace Research Institute, recommends that we must expand cooperation in network governance and create new opportunities for cooperation on the basis of protecting the country’s core interests, so as to build a common community of shared cyberspace.

Yu Yunquan, deputy director of the Institute of Contemporary China and World Studies of the Chinese Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, reckons that the concepts of building a common community of shared future for all mankind and the Belt and Road initiative have gained wide recognition in the international community, we have to put them into practice and turn people’s desire for a better life into reality.

Work together to build a better world

Li Junru pointed out that the concept of building a common community of shared future for all mankind and realize mutual benefits and sharing, proposed by the General Secretary Xi Jinping is not only a beautiful wish, but also a scientific concept with a solid foundation. We should thoroughly study this concept and use Xi Jinping’s socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics in the new era as the basis for our research on international issues.

As a global practice, building a common community of shared future for all mankind requires the people of all countries to work together, jointly tackle problems and meet challenges. “Building a new type of international relations by applying the principles of mutual respect, fairness and justice, and win-win cooperation, is the direction of the future development of mankind,” said Zhang Xiansheng, former deputy secretary general of the Central United Front Work Department.

Meng Xiansheng, Vice President of the Marxism College of Northeast Normal University, said that all political parties should follow the development trend, increase mutual trust, strengthen communication and cooperation, and form more consensus among various political parties in major strategic issues concerning the future and destiny of mankind.
