Mr. Wei Jianguo Addresses the World Export Development Forum

The 11th World Export Development Forum (WEDF) was held in Chongqing, China, on September 9-12, 2010. It is hosted by the UN International Trade Center, Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and Chongqing Municipal Government, in cooperation with CCIEE. The theme of this year’s WEDF is “Adapting to Post-Crisis World Trade Patterns, and Lessons for Export Development”. More than 300 guests from 59 countries and regions attended the forum and exchanged views on certain issues, included guests from the World Trade Organization and UN organizations.

       

On behalf of the Co-organizer, Mr. Wei Jianguo, Secretary General of CCIEE, addressed the forum. He pointed out that international trade has made considerable contribution to China’s economic development and China’s gross exports and imports play a more and more important role in terms of driving world economic growth. In the post-crisis era, China’s economy and foreign trade should not follow the old times. Instead, it should put greater emphasis on structural adjustment, upgrading and transforming foreign trade to improve national welfare. Besides, he stressed the need to maintain the continuity and stability of macro economic policy, create policies to promote free trade development. At the end, he put forward some policy recommendations on certain specific issues.   

During the forum, Mr. Bo Xilai, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Committee, Mr. Huang Qifan, Mayor of Chongqing Municipal, met with Mr. Wei Jianguo. Mr. Bo hoped that CCIEE can make the most of its role as an exclusive think tan to make recommendations on Chongqing’s Economic development.
