CCIEE Co-sponsors China (Binhai.Tianjin) International Eco-city Forum

On September 28^th, the 1^st China (Binhai·Tianjin) International Eco-city Forum was held in Binhai New District, Tianjin. The forum was sponsored by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the PRC, National Development and Reform Commission of the PRC (NDRC), Tianjin Municipal People’s Government and the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE).

Xi Jinping, China’s Vice President and member of the Chinese Politburo of the Standing Committee of the CPC, sent a congratulatory letter to the forum, in which he said accelerating the development of eco-city is necessary for protecting eco-environment and tackling climate change, as well as achieving the goal of “Better City, Better Life.” He hoped that Binhai New District of Tianjin could strengthen cooperation and exchanges with all relevant parties, learn advanced concepts of eco-city development and policies and measures from both domestic and international experience, in order to establish an open, multi-functional and livable eco-city demonstration soon.      

Sang Guowei, Vice Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, Zeng Peiyan, Chairman of CCIEE, Huang Xingguo, Mayor and Deputy Secretary of Tianjin Municipal Party Committee, Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development of Singapore, addressed the opening ceremony, which was chaired by He Lifeng, Deputy Secretary of Tianjin Municipal Party Committee.

The perpetual theme of the forum is “Eco-City Creates Harmonious Future.” As for this year, the forum is consisted of a main forum and five sub-forums, under the theme of “Eco-City & Green Recovery.” Peng Sen, Vice Chairman of NDRC, Qiu Baoxing, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Zheng Xinli, Permanent Vice Chairman of CCIEE, Cui Guangzhi, Deputy Director of the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Administrative Committee, Isabelle Louis, Director for Asia & Pacific program of World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Professor Eero Kalervo Paloheimo, founder of Eero Paloheimo Ecocity Ltd, delivered speeches regarding the following issues at the main forum: low-carbon urbanization, theory & practice of Eco-city construction, green recovery, green architecture and transportation, Eco-footprint, application of low-carbon technology and so forth.   

The topics of the five sub-forums are: Eco-city and Green Economy, Theory and Practice of Eco-city Development, Dreams and Challenges: Technological Integration of Eco-city Construction, Corporate Social Responsibility Under Eco-city Coexistence, Harmonious Interdependence: Spiritual Home of Eco-city. Many Chinese and foreign governmental officials, scholars and experts, delegates from enterprises and media were invited to the forum to explore ways of Eco-city development. 

The “Binhai Eco-city Declaration” was passed at the forum. Along with the opening of the forum, the “Tianjin Binhai Eco-city Expo” also made it debut, Mr. Sang Weiguo and Zeng Peiyan opened the “”Eco-door” for the Expo.

Staff from CCIEE also attended this forum were: Zhang Xiaochong, Deputy Secretary General, Wei Li，Deputy Director-General of Administration Department, Xu Chaoyou, Deputy Director-General of External Affairs Department and others.
