  • Time:2010-11-12

On October 28th 2010, Zeng Peiyan, Chairman of CCIEE met with Klaus Kleinfeld, Chairman and CEO of Alcoa. Also at the meeting were Wei Jianguo, Secretary General of CCIEE, Daniel Cruise, VP for Public and Government Affairs of Alcoa, Chen Jinya, President of Alcoa Asia Pacific and Huang Shauna, VP for Corporate Affairs of Alcoa China.

Zeng Peiyan briefly introduced CCIEE and said China’s opening up and reform is not very long and thus, how China should deal with and participate in globalization as well as how should Chinese enterprises should enter the international market are some of the major issues CCIEE tries to resolve through researches. The three main tasks of CCIEE are: research, which is the top priority of CCIEE. CCIEE has a research team with rich experience and excellent academic background; the second task is to provide relevant governmental departments and organizations with recommendations regarding certain international and domestic issues. Last but not least, offering consulting services to Chinese enterprises going abroad and foreign companies entering the Chinese market.

Mr. Kleinfeld congratulated CCIEE on its achievement and international influence it has gained in a short period, he believed the establishment of CCIEE implies great significance to China. Moreover, he expressed his respect for China and Chinese culture. He said Alcoa is willing to cooperate with CCIEE to help Chinese enterprises enter international market and make contribution to China’s economic development. He recommended Chinese government and companies to cooperate with foreign companies and import upper-stream products for re-processing in China. By using foreign energies, they can lower their costs and reduce pollution while improving added value of domestic aluminum industry.

Mr. Zeng agreed with Mr. Kleinfled’s recommendations. He said Alcoa is one of the Fortune 500 companies, it has a history of more than 120 years and plays a very important role in the global aluminum industry. Also, it has conducted business in China for many years. At present, China is going through the process of economic structure transformation, industrialization and urbanization, as a result, industries like construction and transportation have huge demand for aluminum products, which implies great potential in the aluminum industry. China is not only a large manufacturer of aluminum products, but also a large consumer. Nonetheless, the technological capability is relatively low among Chinese enterprises and therefore, CCIEE can cooperate with Alcoa in areas such as energy saving and environmental protection, aluminum processing and R & D of new alloy materials.
