CCIEE Hosts Global Governance and Sustainable Economic Development Conference

On November 10th, 2010, CCIEE and the Bertelsmann Stiftung jointly hosted the Global Governance and Sustainable Economic Development Conference in Beijing. More than 120 Chinese and foreign guests attended the conference, including government officials, experts and scholars, representatives from media and enterprises.

        

The opening ceremony was chaired by Chen Yongjie, Deputy Secretary General of CCIEE. Wei Jianguo, Secretary General of CCIEE and Gunter Thielen, Chairman and CEO of Bertelsmann Stiftung addressed the opening ceremony. Li Yong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Finance, Li Ruogu, Chairman and President the Export-Import Bank of China and Yan Bingzhu, Chairman of Bank of Beijing delivered keynote speeches at the ceremony.

Participants had in-depth discussions in the following four sessions: The G20: Its Agenda for Seoul and Its Role in Global Governance, The International Trade System: Facilitating More Productivity, Efficiency and Inclusion, Global Development: Spurring Innovation and Sustainability, Global Financial Architecture: The Path Toward Stability and Sustainability. Chen Wenling, Chief Economist of CCIEE and Director General of the General Affairs Department at the State Council Research Center, Paula Stern, Chairwoman of the Stern Group, Inc., along with 20 speakers made speeches at different sessions of the conference and received great feedback from the audiences.

On the morning of November 11th, a closed-door session was held to discuss such issues as Defining Criteria for Sustainable Equilibrium in Global Economy and Building a Shared and Balanced Structure for Global Economy. Some constructive views and results have been formed at the end of discussions. Zheng Xinli, Permanent Vice Chairman of CCIEE, gave a concluding remark which elaborated his views and propositions regarding sustainable global economic development.

The conference was held at the eve of the G20 Summit in Seoul, Korea and thus, the theme of Global Governance and Sustainable Economic Development attracted great attention at home and abroad. The participants believed that this conference could build a compatible platform for academic exchanges, bring wisdom together and make good suggestions on designing future mechanism for G20 and other important issues.

This conference is CCIEE’s first cooperation with Bertelsmann Stiftung of Germany and it can also been seen as CCIEE’s discovery of establishing bilateral exchanges with foreign exchanges.
