  • Time:2009-11-19
On November 19, 2009, Wei Jianguo, Secretary General of CCIEE, met with Duncan Sparkes, economic counselor of the British Embassy to China.
Wei extended his warmest welcome to Sparkes and briefed him on the progress that CCIEE has made since its founding, its scope of businesses and major features.
Sparkes said that the Chinese and British governments conducted frequent visits and close cooperation. The two countries have carried out a number of collaborative projects in diverse fields, such as financial crisis management, regulation of financial institutions, climate change, low-carbon economy, sustainable development, social security, and intellectual property rights. He also said he would actively promote CCIEE among British think tanks and facilitate cooperation between think tanks in the two countries.
Wei said that both China and Britain have benefited from cooperation with each other. He noted that there is much for China to learn from Britain, particularly with regard to climate change, low-carbon economy, sustainable development and the like. The two countries have already undertaken friendly cooperation in economy, trade, education, arts and technology, and in light of the enormous potential for cooperation it is imperative that think tanks in both countries work closely with each other.
At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to strengthen communication and to jointly promote cooperation between Chinese and British think tanks.
