Cohen Group Chairman Pays Visit to CCIEE

On the morning of March 23, 2010, a delegation headed by William Cohen, Chairman of the Cohen Group and former U.S Secretary of Defense, visited CCIEE. Members of the delegation include Doug DeVos, Chairman and CEO of Amway Corporation, and Williams, Chairman and CEO of Underwriters Laboratories. Zeng Peiyan, Chairman of CCIEE, met with Mr. Cohen and the delegation. Also at the meeting were Zheng Xinli and Cong Jun, respectively Permanent Vice Chairman and Deputy Secretary General of CCIEE.

Mr. Zeng praised the Cohen Group for its role in promoting strategy consulting and exchanges between Chinese and American enterprises, which have contributed to mutual understanding and cooperation between corporations in both countries. Also, he noted that CCIEE and the Cohen Group have many similarities, as both organizations provide strategic support to, and serve as platforms for, government and corporations regarding overseas investment and market development. Since China is a large market for new energy, energy conservation, and environmental protection, Zeng added, there is huge potential for cooperation between the two think thanks. He said that the Cohen Group can use its influence in the U.S. to make significant contribution to environmental protection in and transfer of new energy technology to China. If U.S. companies are interested in learning more about China's economy and enterprises, Zeng said, CCIEE will be happy to offer help. He expressed hopes that the two sides can jointly contribute to Sino-US economic cooperation and exchanges.

Mr. Cohen recalled his first visit to China in 1978, saying that he is deeply impressed by the rapid development of China since then. During this trip, Mr. Cohen attended the China Development Forum and met with Chinese leaders. He also said that friendly negotiations, rather than trade sanctions, are required in order for the two countries to solve disputes about Chinese currency exchange rates.
