CCIEE Signs Long-Term MOU With New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre of the Victoria University of Wellington

On December 2, 2010, Wei Jianguo, Secretary General of CCIEE, met with Prof. Neil Quigley, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. On behalf of CCIEE and the New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre of the Victoria University of Wellington, they signed a long-term MOU. Also present at the event were Marc Lanteigne, Professor of politics and international relations at the university and Xu Chaoyou, Deputy Director-General of the Department of External Affairs of CCIEE.
Mr. Wei introduced the progress CCIEE has achieved and its exchanges and cooperation with other organizations since its inception. Also, he said that China and New Zealand have extensive trade and economic connection, as well as wide exchanges in the fields of culture and education. The signing of the MOU has laid a good foundation for future cooperation between the two organizations.
Prof. Quigley said that New Zealand has committed itself to the progress of New Zealand-China mutual relations. The signing of the MOU implies a good beginning of the mutual cooperation. New Zealand has played as a world pioneer in terms of monetary policy and reform and innovation. China’s economy has developed rapidly in recent years, and its economic scale has attracted great attentions from New Zealand. The organizations in New Zealand are willing to learn from China’s successful experience and have joint discussions on the economic development mode with their Chinese counterparts.
The two sides also exchanged views on such issues as further strengthening personnel and academic exchanges and cooperation.
