Chief Economist Chen Wenling Meets With EC Cabinet Advisor Laurence DE RICHEMONT

On the afternoon of December 20, 2010, Ms Chen Wenling, Chief Economist of CCIEE, met with Ms Laurence DE RICHEMONT, Cabinet Advisor of the Current European Commission President. Also at the meeting were Zhang Yongjun, Director of the International Economy Division of the Research Department and, other CCIEE staff.

Ms Chen introduced the background, mission and major exchanges and academic research of CCIEE. She pointed out that the EU is a major economy in the world, one of the most important trade partners of China and China’s best friend. In terms of economic development strategies, China and the EU share many similarities and have a lot of common interests. Thus, the two sides should strengthen cooperation, learn from each other, support each other and  jointly promote the establishment of global economic governance new order.  

Ms De Richemont thanked Chen Wenling for the meeting and agreed on her view that China and EU have a lot of interests in common. She also indicated that the two economies are more interdependent in the era of globalization. Both parties should conduct comprehensive dialogues to enhance mutual understanding, and face the challenges of globalization together. Moreover, Ms De Richemont briefly introduced the “EU 2020 European Strategies”, EU measures for dealing with financial crisis and its concern on issues like global trade and G20 mechanism.

The two sides agreed to enhance further communication, establish long-term and effective exchanges mechanism, conduct reciprocal cooperation and advance China-EU economic and trade relations.
