Zeng Peiyan Meets with Alcoa CEO

On May 13, 2011, CCIEE Chairman Zeng Peiyan met with Klaus Kleinfeld, President and CEO of Alcoa. Also at the meeting were Daniel Cruise, VP for public and government affairs, Kay Meggers, VP for cooperate initiatives, Chen Jinya, Director of Asia Pacific and China of Alcoa, Wei Jianguo, Secretary General, Chen Wenlin, Chief Economist and Xu Chaoyou, deputy Director-General of the Department of External Affairs at CCIEE.
Zeng Peiyan affirmed the joint research on sustainable development conducted by CCIEE and Aloca. He also pointed out that the two sides can cooperate to undertake research on energy-conservation and the use of new energy of the aluminum industry. He said that Chinese and American companies can have joint investment in other countries, by doing so, they can not only make the most of China’s experience in construction, but also make the most of American advantages in capital, technology and management, so as to complement each other’s advantages, which is an excellent win-win model.
Kleinfeld said that sustainable development and low-carbon economy are the fields of joint interest. The cooperation with CCIEE is in line with Alcoa’s value and has made great contribution to Sino-US exchanges. Alcoa has great potential to cooperate with some of the Chinese energy firms in Africa, and it will make great effort to promote such cooperation.
Zeng Peiyan also briefed Kleinfeld on the operation mechanism of Chinese SOEs. He said that Chinese SOEs are operated and managed under contemporary enterprise management system, hoped the U.S. can give fair treatment to Chinese firms. Kleinfeld said he is willing to assist Chinese firms to invest in the U.S.
The two sides also exchanged views on issues like current international economy and nuclear safety.
