Zheng Xinli Meets with the Mayor of Christchurch, NZ

On May 11th, 2012, Mr. Zheng Xinli, Permanent Vice-Chairman of China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE), met with Mr. Bob Parker, Mayor of Christchurch city, New Zealand. Also at the meeting were, Mrs. Joanna Nicholls-Parker, Mayoress of Christchurch city, Mr. Feng Eugene, Economic Relations Manager of the Canterbury Development Corporation in New Zealand, Mr. Chen Yongjie, Deputy Secretary General of CCIEE and Mr. Xu Chaoyou, Director-General of the Department of External Affairs at CCIEE.
Mr. Parker described in detail the damage across Christchurch caused by the earthquake and the post-disaster reconstruction. He pointed out that Christchurch will have stronger seismic resistant capacity after the reconstruction. The reconstruction process will stress on green technology and sustainable development. Moreover, Mr. Parker appreciated the Chinese government and its people for their support after the earthquake, and hoped that Chinese firms can actively take part in the post-disaster reconstruction in Christchurch.
Mr. Zheng Xinli gave Mr. Parker a brief introduction about CCIEE and asked about the field and investment opportunities that foreign companies can participate in the reconstruction work. He said that helping Chinese companies to go global is one of the most important objectives of CCIEE, and hoped that the two sides can enhance communications so as to allow Chinese companies to undertake reconstruction projects in Christchurch. Meanwhile, he pointed out that the investments between China and New Zealand should be reciprocal and bilateral. China has a lot to learn from New Zealand in fields of agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry, and firms of New Zealand are welcome to invest in China so as to promote bilateral trade.
