On June 27 during the Fourth Global Think Tank Summit, Zhang Xiaoqiang, CCIEE Executive Vice Chairman & CEO, and Peter Drysdale, Emeritus Professor of the Australian National University, signed a joint study agreement on China-Australia economic relationship on behalf of their respective institutions. Also at the signing ceremony were Zeng Peiyan, CCIEE Chair and former Vice Premier of China, and HE Ms Frances Adamson, Australian Ambassador to China. The study will examine medium- to long-term prospects for the economic relationship following the signing of the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) and explore policy options.

“The trade and economic cooperation potential of China's and Australia's strongly complementary economies is enormous, and even more so since the conclusion of CAFTA, a new propeller to such ties,” said Zeng Peiyan. “We are confident that the two institutions’ joint study will set path for their economic relationship over the next decade.”

Australian Treasurer Joe Hockey acknowledged “the importance attached to the relationship with China by Australian government” and noted that the study will “contribute significantly to the understanding of our economic ties.”

Another joint study agreement on infrastructure and sustainable development in Asia was reached between CCIEE, represented by Mr. Zhang Xiaoqiang, and French Institute for Sustainable Development & International Relations (IDDRI), represented by its director Ms.Teresa Ribera.

On behalf of CCIEE, Zhang concluded a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation with Il Houng Lee, Director of Korea Institute for International Economic Policy.

These agreements will further facilitate CCIEE’s exchanges and cooperation with its world-renowned counterparts.
