CCIEE Holds Video Conferences with Russian Think Tank

China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) held video conferences with Russian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) and Institute of Far Eastern Studies (IFES) on 31 May and 10 June respectively, extensively exchanging views on topics like how to deepen China-Russia economic and energy cooperation in the current situation, China-Russia high-tech cooperation, coordination of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Greater Eurasian Partnership, prospect of China-Russia Ice Silk Road (ISR) and bilateral legal cooperation.


Representatives agreed that China and Russia, as two major powers, are complementary in economy and interdependent in industry. Long-term and stable bilateral relations is not only in line with interests of the two countries, but also good for world peace and global development. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the signing of China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation, and bilateral relations are at its historical stage. Despite the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, China-Russia economic and energy cooperation embraced strong and positive development, with great potential for cooperation in high-tech and financial sectors. The connectivity of BRI and Greater Eurasian Partnership will present the Eurasian region with important opportunities to realize win-win result and promote recovery of regional economy. As building the ISR together has become the highlight of cooperation between China and Russia, there is large room for the two to collaborate in the Arctic region, including but not limited to joint scientific expeditions, environment protection and exploration and usage of Arctic shipping routes. On top of continuously enhanced economic and energy cooperation, China and Russia should extend the collaboration to other fields in the future, such as science and technology, space technology and healthcare. The two should give a full play to market economy, improve the business environment and legal system, and steadily launch projects by creating favorable conditions together. In the meanwhile, as two big responsible countries, China and Russia should tighten strategic cooperation to safeguard the fairness, justice, peace and stability all around the world, lifting China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era to a new level.
