On September 18, China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) and TCL co-organized the 2021 Forum on Transformation, Upgrading and Globalization of Chinese Enterprises in Beijing. Guest speakers launched in-depth discussions on various topics, including “Industrial Transformation and Upgrading”, “Globalization” and “Global Layout of Industry Chain”. Zhang Xiaoqiang, Executive Vice Chairman of CCIEE and Former Vice Chairman of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), made the opening remarks, and Zhang Dawei, Vice Chairman of CCIEE and Former Vice Chairman of the People’s Congress of Henan Province, presided over the forum. More than 100 delegates attended the forum, including officials from NDRC, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, experts and scholars, entrepreneurs and think tank representatives.

Zhang Xiaoqiang indicated that as China faces profound and complex changes in development environment, China should improve the ability of companies to realize technology innovation and the level that industry chain is modernized with the focus of accelerating the cultivation of new generation of information industry, so as to speed up the progress of digitalization. A decade of time witnessed great advancement of China’s display industry as it grew from a follower to a pacemaker worldwide. Leading companies should further make advantage of their successful experience in pursuit of breakthroughs at key and core technologies like large-scale integrated circuit, accelerating the development of Manufacturing Power. Against the trends of protectionism and anti-globalization, we should stand firm to and ensure the healthy development of an open economy and economic globalization.

Li Dongsheng, Founder and Chairman of TCL, shared the experience of 40-year innovation and practice of TCL. He said that in the context of transformation and upgrading of world economy and manufacturing industry, it is an inevitable choice for Chinese enterprises to seize the development opportunity to strengthen core competitiveness and move to the upper end of value chain. Chinese enterprises’ going international not only boosts the strong growth of their own business, but also facilitates the implementation of national strategy of “dual-circulation” new development paradigm. Through constant reform, innovation, transformation and upgrading, TCL has so far fostered three pillar businesses, namely intelligent terminal, semiconductor display and semiconductor photovoltaic and materials. Besides, it owns complete industry chain and supply chain worldwide, developing into a technology industry group with global competitiveness. The secret behind TCL’s cross-cycle breakthroughs is that it has stuck to its main business, focused on industrial upgrading and globalization strategy, and constantly improved its core competitiveness.

Participants also viewed that in the new normal, new generation of information technology will continue to play an important role. China should fasten the development of digital economy, society and government, drive overall reform in production mode with digital transformation, and speed up the progress of digital industrialization. It was widely recognized by the participants that enterprises, as the important entities of socialist market economy, should make full use of their function by proactively rolling out transformation and upgrading, improving competitiveness in technology comprehensively and deeply integrating into the system of global economy, so as to achieve better development during the process of promoting high-quality economic development and building new development paradigm.
