CCIEE Held 166th Monthly Economic Talk Themed of BRICS Summit, Exchanges and Cooperation

On JAugust 25, 2023, the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) held the 166th session of the "Monthly Economic Talk" with the theme of " BRICS Summit, Exchanges and Cooperation." The meeting was chaired by Han Yongwen,Vice Chairman of CCIEE. Zhu Guangyao, Vice Chairman of CCIEE and former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Finance (attending the meeting online), Wang Yiming, Vice Chairman of CCIEE and Chairman of the Academic Committee at CCIEE, Chen Wenling, Chief Economist and Deputy Director of Board of Executives of CCIEE, Yang Baorong, Researcher and Division -Chief of Economic Research Office at Institute of China and African Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences delivered speeches respectively.

Participants believe that BRICS cooperation is the most important platform for solidarity and cooperation among developing countries, and its cooperation mechanism is the core mechanism representing the "Global South". The sustainable development and strong attraction of BRICS cooperation lies in the implementation of the new concept of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. The next step is to fully leverage the role of the BRICS cooperation mechanism and promote the construction of a development community.

Zhu Guangyao pointed out that it is necessary to ensure the stability and economic development of the BRICS countries themselves, strengthen policy coordination among countries, fully leverage the role of financial cooperation mechanisms such as the New Development Bank, and promote the reform of the international financial system.

Wang Yiming believes that BRICS countries should enhance the sense of development community, adhere to the principle of development first, inclusive, innovation-driven, green transformation and action-oriented, and implement global development initiatives. We should strengthen the BRICS cooperation mechanism, strengthen cooperation in  food and energy, infrastructure, development financing, climate change and other fields, and promote reform of the global economic governance system.

Chen Wenling proposed that BRICS countries should strengthen cooperation in the fields of finance, digital economy and energy, speed up the construction of new industrial cooperation partnership among BRICS countries, and jointly cope with the challenges faced.

Yang Baorong said that it is necessary to adhere to extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, promote the construction of an open world economy, so that developing countries can better integrate into the international division of labor and share the fruits of economic globalization

After the speeches, the participating experts engaged in interactive exchanges with the media. Some researchers and member units of CCIEE, research institutions, enterprises, and news media participated in the conference through online channels.
