On May 19, 2023, The China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) organized a symposium under the theme of investment opportunities in the environmental protection industry. Zhang Xiaoqiang, Executive Vice Chairman and Director of the Board of Eexecutives of CCIEE, attended the meeting. Representatives from the National Development and Reform Commission, Development Research Center of the State Council, CCID Research Institute, China Battery Industry Association, South Korea's SK Group, Jiangsu Trina Smart Distributed Energy and other institutions attended the meeting, and conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as clean energy, environmental governance and resource recycling, investment opportunities in the lithium battery recycling industry, and development prospects of the emerging photovoltaic and energy storage industry. The meeting was chaired by Han Yihu, deputy chief economist of CCIEE and executive director and general manager of the China Economic Consulting Corporation.
Zhang Xiaoqiang said that green and low-carbon transformation and environmental protection industries are important ways to accelerate the construction of a new development pattern and achieve high-quality development. Green is not only one of the five major concepts but also the background of high-quality development. Since the "14th Five-Year Plan", especially after President Xi Jinping announced the goal of "carbon peak and carbon neutrality", the country has attached great importance to green development, especially dual-carbon related industries, and the wind power, photovoltaic, hydrogen energy and new energy automobile industries have achieved a trend of rapid development.
Zhang Xiaoqiang pointed out that independent research and development of core components and key technologies is the basis for industrial development. With a proper combination of a promising government and an effective market, the government guides and encourages enterprises to actively participate in investment in the environmental protection industry by formulating industrial policies, organizing major scientific and technological innovation projects, and providing necessary financial support to promote the coordinated development of the entire upstream and downstream of the entire industry chain. At the same time, following objective laws, scientific and orderly development, and international industrial cooperation are equally important.
Representatives at the meeting held active discussions on key areas such as green circular economy, formulation of lithium battery recycling standards, future battery technology development routes, green intelligent manufacturing and intelligent management systems, and carbon asset accounting standards.
