Mr. Zeng Peiyan, Chairman of CCIEE and Mr. Tung Chee-hwa, addressed the opening ceremony. Mr. Wang Chunzheng, Executive Vice Chairman of CCIEE, Mr. Zhang Xiaoqiang, Vice Chairman of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Mr. Gary Locke, US Ambassador to China, Madam Ma Xiuhong, Chairwoman of China Foreign Trade Center, Mr. Carlos Gutierrez, former US Secretary of Commerce, Myron Brilliant, Executive Vice President of US Chamber of Commerce (USCC), and other experts participated in the discussions.

Mr. Zeng said that the research covers extensive areas such as the complementarities of US-China economic and trade relations, challenges facing the two nations in the next ten years and the important areas and paths of US-China cooperation. He believed that this research will play a positive role in terms of policy-design of the two countries.

Mr. Tung expressed that this research clarified the direction of the highly-interdependent and reciprocal US-China relations. Both nations want to establish a sustainable development and employment mode which is reliable and of high quality. If the US-China relations can advance with times, it will make great contribution to realize their shared goal for both sides.

Mr. Lau introduced the report, saying that the strong economic complementarities between the US and China will make their relations unprecedentedly interdependent, boost economic prosperity and increase employment of the two nations. They should seize the historical opportunity and strengthen cooperation in goods and services trade, investment, agriculture, tourism, technology, energy and sustainable development, so as to unleash the potential of US-China economic and trade cooperation.

The report was released in New York, Washington and Chicago from 20 to 23 May, which attracted widespread attention and produced great impact.
