CCIEE Holds 50th CCIEE Monthly Economic Talk

On August 22, 2013, CCIEE held the 50th Monthly Economic Talk under the theme of Building New Rural Community and the Practice of Land Conversion. Mr. Zhang Dawei, Secretary General of CCIEE, presided over the talk.

Mr. Xia Ming, Director of the Environment, Resource, Urban and Rural Construction Committee, National People’s Congress of Jiangsu Province, Mr. Tong Daizhi, CEO of Chongqing Land Exchange, and Mr. Zhang Yongjun, Deputy Director-General of Economic Research Department at CCIEE, gave presentations at the talk.

Mr. Xia Ming proposed that local governments must not blindly pursue political achievement by merely pushing GDP growth, instead, they should prevent any kind of waste in the process of construction. Mr. Tong Daizhi argued that land conversion has increased farmers’ income from properties. Furthermore, Mr. Zhang Yongjun introduced CCIEE’s recent fact-finding trip to Henan province, saying that the establishment of new rural community will not only improve farmers’ living standard as a whole, but also facilitate the equalization of public services and narrow the gap between urban and rural public services.

At the end of the talk, experts took questions from the audience and media.
