The 4th China (Tianjin, Binhai) Eco-City Forum & Expo, co-hosted by the NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission), MOHURD (Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development), Tianjin Municipal People’s Government and CCIEE, made its debut on 15 September, 2013. The theme of this year’s forum is Eco-City and Beautiful Homes, which can be seen as an extension to the permanent theme of Eco-City Creates Harmonious Future. By combining the requirement of the 18th National People’s Congress Report, Vigorously Promoting Eco-civilization and Building a Beautiful China, and the practice of eco-city construction of Binhai New District, the forum encourages discussions on city’s development paths and measures in the context of eco-civilization, and helps us to build beautiful homes.

Mr. Wei Jianguo, Vice-Chairman of CCIEE, presided over the main forum. A number of Chinese and Singaporean senior officials delivered keynote speeches at the forum, including Mr. Goh Chok Tong, former Prime Minister of Singapore and Emeritus Senior Minister, Mr. Khaw Boon Wan, Minister for National Development, Mr. Huang Mengfu, former Vice-Chairman of the CPPCC (Chinese’s People’s Political Consultative Conference), and Honorary Chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Yuan Tongli, Member of the Standing Committee of Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and Party Secretary of Binhai New District, and Mr. Zong Guoying, District Mayor of Binhai New District.

The forum consists of eight parallel sub-forums, in which more than thousand of officials, experts and scholars, representatives of international organizations and corporations from forth countries and regions had in-depth discussions under the theme of Eco-City and Beautiful Homes. Furthermore, they exchanged views on such issues as coping with global climate change, promoting the construction of eco-city and achieving efficient integration of policy, technology and finance.

The forum also sets up five exhibition areas, namely, Green Architecture and Energy-Conserving, Circular Economy, Eco-City Experience, Eco-City Demonstration and Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City, which are open to the public for free. The Expo puts great emphasis on demonstrating the latest ideas, technologies, products and equipments in relation to eco-city, such as general and landscape design of eco-city, housing design, green architecture, the use and disposal of water resource, ecological and environment-protection technology, circular economy, energy-conserving materials and technologies, new types of mechanical equipments, and the management of smart city.

In summary, the forum acts as a great plat form for exchanges among governments, enterprises and research institutions.
