CCIEE Holds 55th Monthly Economic Talk

On January 22, 2014, CCIEE held the 55th Monthly Economic Talk at Beijing Media Center, under the theme of Analysis and Prospect of China’s and World Economies. Fan Jianping, Chief Economist of the National Information Center, presided over the meeting.

Chen Wenling, CCIEE Chief Economist and Zhang Yongjun, Deputy General-Director of the Economic Research Department of CCIEE, gave presentations respectively. Chen Wenlin believed that the overall economic situation in 2014 is good and economic recovery is accelerating. Nonetheless, such kind of accelerated recovery is not the one generated under normal economic cycle but a result of strong stimulus policy or a series of extraordinary policy measures.

Zhang Yongjun pointed out that the current RMB appreciation is slightly overdone and thus, RMB should slow down its pace of appreciation or even allow a two-way fluctuation when it is necessary. It is acceptable if RMB depreciation occurs for a certain period of time.

At the end of the talk, experts took questions from the audience and media.

Researchers and representatives from corporate member companies of CCIEE, other research institutions and the media attended the meeting.
