CCIEE Holds 58th Monthly Economic Talk
On Apil 22, 2014, CCIEE held the 58th Monthly Economic Talk at the Beijing Media Center, under the theme of Economic Analysis of the 1st Quarter. Mr. Zhang Xiaoqiang, Executive Vice Chairman of CCIEE, presided over the meeting.
Zhu Baoliang, General-Director of the Economic Forecast Department, National Information Center, Zhang Liqun,Deputy Secretary-General of the Academic Commission, Development Research Center of the State Council, Zhu Jianfang, Chief Economist of Citic Securities, and Zhang Yongjun, Deputy General-Director of Economic Research Department of CCIEE, delivered presentations respectively.
Zhu Baoliang pointed out that the primary reason of the slow economic growth in the 1st quarter is the decline in investment. Housing price and investment will determine the economic performance in the 2nd quarter, or even the rest of the year.
Zhang Liqun believed that the economic outcome of the 1st quarter is better than expected and it will remain stable in the future. Furthermore, consumption is rising and export is gradually recovering and investment is also cooling down and thus, the real estate market will not crash and China will be able to realize its goal of economic growth this year. The government should pay more attention to economic restructuring and transformation.
Zhu Jianfang reckoned that the economy will be under certain pressure and the fine-tuning of policy is hence critical for economic growth.
Finally, Zhang Yongjun stated that the current economy is under more downward pressure than before, and the slowdown in economic growth is closely related with slack domestic and international demand. Nonetheless, those factors will not lead Chinese economy to a hard-landing.
At the end of the talk, experts took questions from the audience and media.
Researchers and representatives from corporate member companies of CCIEE, other research institutions and the media attended the meeting.
