CCIEE Holds 61st Monthly Economic Talk
On July 22, 2014, CCIEE held the 61st Monthly Economic Talk in Beijing Media Center, under the theme of Economic Review of the First Half 2014 & Outlook of the Second Half. Zhang Yansheng, Secretary General of the Academic Committee of NDRC, presided over the meeting.
Li Deshui, Deputy Director of CCIEE Academic Committee and former Director of National Bureau of Statistics, Gary Hufbauer, Senior Researcher of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, and Phupinder Gill, CEO of Chicago Board of Trade gave presentations respectively.
Li Deshui pointed out that China’s economy remained stable in the first half and the international economic environment has brought more opportunities than challenges to China. In the second half, China will facilitate urbanization gradually, stimulate market vitality, transform economic growth mode smoothly and conduct industrial upgrading, which is likely to be a painful process.
Mr.Gary Hufbauer said that America’s weak domestic demand has led to industrial overcapacity and it faces such problems as lack of innovative personnel and bottleneck in infrastructure construction.
Mr. Phupinder Gill concluded that China continues to deepen reform to allow the market play a bigger role in economy. Furthermore, it tries to make RMB the core of the international currencies by further reform. He hopes that China will become more international.
At the end of the talk, experts took questions from the audience and media. Researchers and representatives from corporate member companies of CCIEE, other research institutions and the media attended the meeting.
