CCIEE Holds 68th Monthly Economic Talk

On February 26, 2015, CCIEE held the 68th Monthly Economic Talk, under the theme of The Trend and Impact of An Aging Population. Mr. Wei Jianguo, Vice Chairman of CCIEE, presided over the meeting. Mr. Hao Fuqing, Sub-inspector of the Department of Social Affairs, NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission), Mr. Wu Yushao, Director of the Science and Technology Center, National Aging Commission, Mr. Jin Weigang, President of the Research Institute of Social Security, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and Ms. Yang Yansui, Professor of Tsinghua University delivered their speeches respectively.   

       

In terms of dealing with challenges brought by aging population, Mr. Hao Fuqing, believes that government should guide and support the healthy development of pension services industry by implementing policies for planning, tax, land, financing and investment and personnel training. In Particular, the authorities should innovate ways of governmental investment and develop a diversified pension services industry.

Mr. Wu Yushao said the aging population is also an important social and economic issue and thus, the authorities should actively improve five systems, including social security system, health-supporting system, service system, social support system and make the environment more livable.

 Mr. Jin Weigang reckons that China’s pension system is faced with great challenges, the double-track pension system between private companies and government organizations and institutions has caused social contradiction, and the shortage in basic pension insurance fund is enlarging. All these problems need to be resolved by reforming the current pension system.

Ms. Yang Yansui suggested that the authorities should take precautions when dealing with problems relating to aging population and technology and consumption should play an important role. Furthermore, the best time for promoting gradual postponement of retirement age has just arrived.

At the end of the talk, experts took questions from the audience and media. Researchers and representatives from corporate member companies of CCIEE, other research institutions and the media attended the meeting.
