On December 26, 2007, China’s first “Coal-fired Power Plants Demonstration Project of Capture 3000 tons of CO2 Yearly” began construction in Huaneng Beijing Thermal Power Plant. This is an international cooperative project based on the “Joint Statement on Climate Change and Energy Issues” which was signed by China and Australia in 2007.The total investment of this project was 24 million RMB and it will make great contribution to global emission reduction of greenhouse gases.

At present, the CO2 capture and storage technology still remains at the stage of R & D and demonstration; it has not been able to reach commercialization level. China has just started the R & Din this field. As the largest power plant in China, Huaneng Group is taking the lead in the R & D as well as demonstration of CO2 capture and processing technology in power plants, which is of great importance for mastering the core technology of CO2   capture and storage. All of these have far-reaching significance for achieving sustainable development in traditional coal-fired power plants.

The employee of Huaneng Beijing Co-Generation CO., Ltd. Explained the operation of CCS project.

All the visitors showed great interest during the field trip and had in-depth discussion with the engineers of Huaneng group. At the end, they gave very positive feedback to the CCS project.
