CCIEE Chairman Zeng Peiyan Addresses the Northeast Asia Celebrity Conference

The 5th conference of Northeast Asia Celebrity Conference with the theme of “The Changing World & Roles of China, Japan and Korea” was held on April 19, 2010 in Nara, Japan. Participants from governments, academia and business communities in China, Japan and Korea appealed for practical cooperation among three nations to deal with the challenges in the post-crisis period.  

Zeng Peiyan, former Vice Premier of the State Council and head of the Chinese delegation, pointed out in his address that a series of significant reforms and adjustments need to be implemented and certain mentality also need to be changed in the post-crisis period. The situation requires us to broaden our horizons and think out of the box from a strategic, global and long-term perspective, take corresponding social and international responsibilities to promote sustainable development of the world economy. In relation to the various complex issues in the post-crisis period,we should actively push economic globalization forward, lay emphasis on the development of green economy and promote the reform of international financial system.    

Zeng Peiyan also indicated that practical cooperation among China, Japan and Korea should further enrich the concept of their partnership, inject new elements for deepening cooperation and promote cooperation mechanisms at multi-levels and in various fields and forms. To this end, he made the following six recommendations: first of all, fulfill political commitment, increase strategic mutual trust, maintain high-level exchanges and promote stable, lasting development of the partnership among three nations. Secondly, enhance the coordination and exchanges of macroeconomic policies, support and promote development of Asia bond market and of a regional reserve pooling management between the ASEAN and China, Japan and Korea to safeguard and foster regional economic and financial stability. Thirdly, oppose trade protectionism and reach a balanced, practical and win-win trade and investment agreement among China. Japan and Korea as soon as possible. Fourthly, expand cooperation in such areas as transportation, logistics, green economy to promote the establishment of a coordination mechanism for resource commodities in China, Japan and Korea. Fifthly, expand non-governmental exchanges, especially youth exchanges to consolidate the social basis for friendship among three nations. Last but not least, advance the international financial system reform jointly to establish an international financial new order that is fair, equitable, inclusive and well-managed.

Nakasone Yasuhiro, former Prime Minister of Japan and head of the Japanese delegation said that Japan, China and Korea should further cooperate and enhance their voice in the world to make important contribution to the maintaining of stability in Asia and the world. The three nations should see the establishment of East Asia political and security insurance, a regional cooperative organization in the fields of economy and culture as their long-term objectives and play a leading role collectively.
