Zhang Yansheng: Anti-Protectionism Tops the Agenda of the Second Round of the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue

The 11th “Monthly Economic Talk” was held by the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) on May 25, 2010 with the theme of “China-US Strategic & Economic Cooperation”. Zhang Yansheng, Director of the Foreign Economic Research Institute of the National Reform and Development Commission, said that promoting mutual benefits through trade and investment, constructing an open trade and investment environment and opposing to the trade protectionism is an important topic of the second round of the China-US Economic Talks. He pointed out that the following points were included in the UN briefing:

First, both China and the US agreed to strictly comply with the WTO rules when initiating investigations on trade relief and carrying out relief measures to prevent it from being abused. Second, in the China- US Strategic and Economic Dialogue, especially in the economic talks, the two countries reiterated that their innovation policies shall keep in line with the non-discriminatory principle.
