From 5 to 6 November 2021, the Fourth Hongqiao International Economic Forum China’s Modernization and New Opportunity for the World sub-forum was held in Shanghai. China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) organized the symposium on dual-circulation new development pattern and global economic development under the framework of the sub-forum. The symposium was held through both online and offline approaches and consisted of two topics. Bi Jingquan, Executive Vice Chairman of CCIEE and Vice Chairman of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the 13th CPPCC National Committee, made the keynote speech at the opening ceremony. Zhang Xiaoqiang, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of CCIEE, Jaing Zengwei and Wang Yiming, Vice Chairmen of CCIEE, attended the symposium and presided over certain sessions respectively. Chen Wenling, Chief Economist of CCIEE, and Zhang Yansheng, Principal Researcher of CCIEE, were present at the symposium and took part in the discussion.

The symposium invited nearly 30 guest speakers, including delegates from 18 countries and regions, including the U.S., the UK, France, Belgium, Hungary, Mexico, Brazil, Singapore, Japan, Pakistan and Australia, heads of international organizations like Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, International Monetary Fund and World Bank, representatives from domestic and foreign think tanks and business associations, and experts and scholars. Participants carried out in-depth discussions on links between China’s and world economies from the perspective of dual-circulation new development paradigm and prospect of China’s and world economies in the post-pandemic era, making the symposium a great success.

Both Chinese and foreign participants agreed that the new development paradigm put forward by Chinese government, in which the domestic market is the mainstay and the domestic and foreign markets reinforce each other, is not only a strategy of great significance for China, but also bring about profound impact on the development of global economy. In the post-pandemic era, countries all around the world should reach more consensus, enhance cooperation, and work together to develop a more open, inclusive, universal, balanced and win-win world economy.
