CCIEE Held the Round Table Dialogue of BRICS Think Tanks

On September 14th, 2022, the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) held the Round Table Dialogue of BRICS Think Tanks. 10 scholars and professionals of 8 Think Tanks from the five BRICS countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa attended the dialogue and made in-depth exchanges and discussions centered the topics of "The Role of BRICS Countries in Promoting Global Sustainable Development" and "Prospects for BRICS Countries' Cooperation in Science and Technology Innovation."

 



The participating scholars and professionals unanimously agreed that the current combination of the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic crisis, along with the rise of trade protectionism and anti-globalization, pose severe challenges to countries around the world, especially developing countries. As representatives of emerging markets and developing countries, BRICS countries play an important role in promoting  balance recovery of global economy and global sustainable development. All parties should take maximum advantage of the role of the BRICS cooperation mechanism to enhance mutual trust, support multilateralism, strengthen the BRICS countries' "voice," promote the reform of global governance system , improve the quality and effectiveness of BRICS cooperation, and collectively address the issues and challenges faced by global development. We should accelerate the transformation of BRICS countries, with a focus on the cooperation in the area of climate change, energy transition, green development, digital economy and connectivity, pursue a low-carbon and sustainable development path; deepen cooperation among BRICS countries in science and technology innovation, particularly in key areas such as information and communication technology, energy development, biotechnology, 5G internet, big data, artificial intelligence, digital technology, and financial technology, and strengthen the protection of intellectual property right, innovative research and development, as well as technology transfer cooperation. We should make full use of the platform role of the BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership Innovation Base to provide support for the coordination of industrial policy , project development and talent exchange among BRICS countries. In this context, the think tanks among BRICS countries should maintain exchanges and dialogues, form more consensus, provide suggestions and proposals for pragmatic cooperation among BRICS countries, build bridges of communication among BRICS countries, enhance public satisfaction, and enhance people's sense of gain so that the achievements of BRICS cooperation will benefit people of all countries.

 

Xu Zhanchen, Director-General of the Department of World Economy Studies of CCIEE, Li Feng, Director-General of the Department of Innovation Development Studies of CCIEE made theire speech at the meeting; Xu Chaoyou, Director-General of the Department of International Exchanges and Cooperation of CCIEE took the chair of the meeting; Marcos Caramuru, Former Ambassador of Brazil to China, Member of the International Advisory Board of the Brazilian Center for International Relations, Fernando José RIBEIRO, Senior Researcher of the Institute of Applied Economic Research of Brazil, Alexander Lukin, Academic Head of the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergey Lukonin, Director of the Center for Economic and Political Studies of China of Primakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO), Avijit Banerjee, Head of the Department of Chinese Language &Culture of Visva-Bharati University in India, Priyadarshi Dash, Associate Professor of the Indian Research and Information System for Developing Countries, David Monyae, Director of the Center for Africa-China Studies of University of Johannesburg in South Africa attended the meeting and delivered their speeches.
