The Book Launch of "Competition and Cooperation between China and Europe: Reconstructing Interests in the Era of Great Transformation" and Seminar on the Prospects and Challenges of the Cooperation between China and Europe were Held in Beijing

On April 6, 2023, the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) held the book launch of "Competition and Cooperation between China and Europe: Reconstructing Interests in the Era of Great Transformation" and Seminar on the Prospects and Challenges of the Cooperation between China and Europe. The meeting was chaired by Wang Yiming, Vice Chairman of and Director of the Academic Committee of CCIEE. Qiao Weibing, Executive Director (President) and Chief Editor of China Translation & Publishing House Co. Ltd., attended the book launch and delivered a speech. Research Fellow Zhang Monan, Deputy head of Institute of American and European Studies of CCIEE introduced the new book.



 

Chen Wenling, Chief Economist and Deputy Director of the Board of Executive of CCIEE; Cui Hongjian, Director of the European Studies Institute at China Institutes of International Studies; Liu Huaqin, Director of Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Commerce; Wang Yigui, Jean Monnet Chair Professor and Director of the Center for European Studies at Renmin University of China; as well as experts, scholars, and representatives from the European Chamber of Commerce, BMW Group, Veolia (China), and other institutions attended the event and delivered speeches.



 

Based on the unprecedented and rapidly evolving global changes of the past century, as well as the profound readjustment of international power dynamics, the book, The book, "Competition and Cooperation between China and Europe: Reconstructing Interests in the Era of Great Transformation", comprehensively reviews the histories  and underlying logic of the 70-year development of China-Europe economic and trade relations. It asserts that China-Europe relations, as one of the world's most important bilateral relationships, involve inherent competition while emphasizing that cooperation is always the best choice for both sides. In recent years, China-Europe trade and investment have reached new heights, fully reflecting the complementarity and robust resilience of the economic and trade relationship between the two regions. It also highlights that the deepening economic and trade cooperation between China and Europe is the combined result of market forces and the choices made by enterprises.

 

The attending experts and business representatives expressed that the book provides a thorough analysis of the era background for reshaping China-Europe interest relations. It analyzes the competition and cooperation in key areas such as trade, energy, and manufacturing between China and Europe in the new era, and puts forward thoughts and suggestions for reshaping the bilateral economic and trade relationship.
