CCIEE Holds the Annual Meeting of China’s Economy (2011-2012)

On January 14th, 2012, CCIEE held the Annual Meeting of China’s Economy (2011-2012) in Beijing. Under the theme of Confronting Challenge and Seeking Innovative Development, the meeting consisted of in-depth discussions on such issues as Chinese and international economies, the transformation of China’s economic mode, enterprises’ innovation and development. Zeng Peiyan, Chairman of CCIEE and former Chinese Vice Premier addressed the main forum. More than 300 guests attended the meeting, including governmental officials and leaders, experts and scholars, entrepreneurs and journalists.  

         

The general views of the meeting are that the world economy will still be complex and grim in 2012, with the instability and uncertainty likely to increase, developed economies have experienced the worst economic distress since world war II, and the emerging economies are also facing financial meltdown and inflation pressure. China should adhere to boost domestic consumption, bear closely in mind its overall interests, both internal and external, draw on advantages and avoid disadvantages, and look for opportunity in the crisis. Furthermore, China should actively create new advantages which enable it to participate in international economic cooperation and competition, further improve its overall national strength and international competitiveness.

Some speakers also pointed out at the meeting, that the problems of imbalance, discordance and unsustainability are still prominent in China’s economic development. The pressure from economic slowdown and prices increase co-exist, and the potential risk in the fields of finance and real estate can not be ignored. According to the requirements of the central government, China should seek economic growth while ensuring its stability, achieve endogenously economic growth, and realize healthy and sustainable economic development.

         

Also, the participants said that the environment for companies’ development will be tougher in 2012, weak domestic and foreign markets, increasing labor cost and energy price will bring more challenges to companies. Thus, China should adopt proactive fiscal policy and prudent monetary policy, focus on developing real economy, facilitate management and technological innovation, accelerate the transformation and upgrading of companies, improve their competitiveness, so as to achieve economic growth while maintain a stable economy.

Before the Annual Meeting of China’s Economy, CCIEE also held its General Assembly & Council Meeting. Zeng Peiyan, Chairman of CCIEE, and Jiang Zhenghua, Tang Jiaxuan, Xu Kuangdi, advisors of CCIEE attended the meeting. Also at the meeting were more than 100 representatives of CCIEE member companies.

         

It was agreed at the meeting that CCIEE has achieved great success in many fields, research quality has been improved steadily, more exchanges have been conducted, economic consulting serves have also been offered gradually. In summary, CCIEE’s influence has been expanded greatly both at home and abroad. In 2012, CCIEE will continue to advance its business by further consolidating its foundation, improving its quality, promoting its popularity, and stressing its efficacy so as to make CCIEE one of the top think tanks in the world.
