CCIEE Holds 33rd Monthly Economic Talk

On March 15th, 2012, China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) held the 33rd Monthly Economic Talk at China Millennium Monument, under the theme of The Operation of Chinese and Foreign Ports & Logistic Costs. Mr. Wei Jianguo, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of CCIEE, chaired the talk.

         

Ms. Chen Wenling, Chief Economist of CCIEE and Vice President of China Logistics Association, listed the following four problems in China’s current logistic development: homogenous competition among ports, inefficient convergence, lack of social logistic platform, and absence of strategic design and policy. Also, she expressed her opinions and recommendations on improving Chinese logistic industry’s global competitiveness. Kieran Ring, CEO of Global Logistics Institute, said that local logistics will be gradually integrated into global logistic system as globalization continues to develop. In order to build a better logistic environment, China should further reform its motorway, and solve problems like lengthy passing formality and high toll. Joachim Coens, Chairman and Managing Director of the Port of Zeebrugge, Jerry Bridges, Executive Director of Virginia Port Authority, gave detailed introduction of European and American ports respectively.

In the Q & A section after presentations, the speakers answered various questions from the audience and press. Also attended the talk were staff from the research department, research & consulting department and information department of CCIEE, member companies of CCIEE, other research institutions and media.
