Wei Jiangguo Meets with Chairman of Canadian International Council

On December 9, 2009, Wei Jianguo, Secretary General of CCIEE, attended a luncheon held by the Canadian Ambassador David Mulroney at his official residence and met with Mr. Jim Balsillie, co-CEO of Research in Motion (RIM)-the developer of BlackBerry-and Chairman of Canadian International Council (CIC). Also at the luncheon were Lan Lijun, China's Ambassador to Canada, Xu Chaoyou, deputy director of the Department of External Affairs at CCIEE, Jeffery John Nankivell, Canadian Minister to China, Med'an, Canadian Commercial Minister to China and Xie Guorui, president of RIM China.
Wei explained to the Canadian guests the background, structure, main business scope and operation of CCIEE. Ambassador Mulroney spoke highly of the significance and recent achievements of Canada-China cooperation. Balsillie introduced RIM's business operations in China, emphasized the potential of the Chinese market, and described plans to increase investment and to establish research and development center as well as manufacturing plants in China. He pointed out that since CIC specializes in strategic research on major international issues, it hopes to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with CCIEE. Wei agreed with Balsillie's suggestion and expressed confidence in future cooperation.
